WHO WE ARE

The Community Bible Society (CBS) is one of the oldest philanthropic organisations in Khayelitsha. It is an experienced and trusted organisation partnering with well-established corporations and organisations to realise our collective vision of creating a stable and caring society.

The Community Bible Society was established in Khayelitsha, twenty years ago to respond to the challenges faced by several communities in the Khayelitsha area. It was established by Aaron Makili and his wife Mavis and together they have served the people of Khayelitsha for well over 25 years.

Thanks to our community of donors, we have been able to provide food, emergency relief, micro-enterprise solutions and much more. We are proud to have been able to feed millions of people and have supported hundreds of thousands of families.

Our faith inspired us to be an organisation built on compassion, and motivated by love. Our mission is to bring relief to the poorest of the poor in the communities where we serve. Our organisation is built on the premise that no one should go hungry, no matter who they are. All our programmes and projects are aimed at advancing dignity, equality, and prosperity by addressing the fundamental human needs of food, employment and education.

WHAT WE DO

The Community Bible Society’s mission is to advance the dignity, equality and prosperity of our people by addressing the fundamental human needs of food, employment and education.

We offer an innovative approach to helping people emerge from the cycle of poverty by providing nutritious meals, social enterprise opportunities and educational opportunities to disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape. Our focus areas are nutrition, education and economic empowerment.

Our programmes are designed to respond to poverty, food insecurity and unemployment. These are our programmes: Community Nutrition Programme, Seeds of Hope Food Gardening Programme and the Women’s Bakeries Project.
